Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, developed with enhanced metabolic stability through the addition of a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. Research has focused on its anxiolytic-like effects in behavioural models, where it appears to modulate GABAergic and serotonergic neurotransmission without sedative side effects typical of benzodiazepine-class compounds. Studies also indicate neurotrophic properties, including upregulation of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) expression and modulation of enkephalin and inflammatory cytokine levels.
