MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the Twelve S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome. It is the first mitochondrial-derived peptide shown to regulate metabolic homeostasis at the cellular and systemic level. Research has demonstrated its role in activating AMPK signalling, improving glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity, and mimicking certain metabolic effects of exercise. Studies in aged mouse models have shown improvements in physical performance and metabolic markers. It represents a novel class of retrograde signalling molecules from mitochondria to the nucleus. Each vial contains 10 mg at ≥99.0% purity.
